Not the worse piece of crap ROLAND has made recently
|
When I first saw the trailer for 2012, I was pretty excited. Then I saw the directory: Roland Emmerich. All enthusiasm immediately seeped from my body, and has never returned. But, I was slightly encouraged by the awesome looking special effects? Would they be enough to make up for what is sure to be a crappy movie?
I cite, in particular, 10,000 BC and THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. While much of TOMORROW is watchable, the unwatchable parts are completely retched. The same can be said of the entire ordeal called 10,000 BC.
However, I have always very much enjoyed INDEPENDENCE DAY, though I can admit it is kind of crappy. But, its a corny crappy, and the effects due make up for it. STARGATE wasn't at all crappy, though. It wasn't the revolutionary sci-fi movie I wanted it to be, but hey, it was still good.
Godzilla was rough.
Roland recently spoke of an Independence Day sequel, possibly called "ID4 Ever". With titles like that, they still let him make movies? In fact, before the issue of ID4-2, why is he still making movies anyway? What is the driving factor? Despite the awfulness, are they very profitable, so they just let him keep going? I'd really like to know. I can see overlooking a bad movie like THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, but how is it physically possible to turn a blind eye to 10,000 BC? God!
Anyway, the current movie is 2012 BC. For the most part, I liked it. I don't think its because it was very good, but because it was fun enough to overlook its glaring defects. Its not as effective as ID4 was (I give ID4 a solid 5 rating), but at least its watchable and mostly enjoyable. Maybe I have been desensitized to awfulness of Roland Emmerich movies. I hope not. If that were to actually happen, then the next step in my fall from grace will be to enjoy UWE BOLL movies. We don't need that.
The lead up to the mass destruction was good. The whole time, you're sitting there just waiting for it... you know its coming. Each minute is a step closer towards chaos. They ease it in, a little bit at a time. A tremor... a crack in the street... a big crack in the street... the decimation of California, of the united states, and then of the world... something like that.
There are a lot of little side stories here and there covering the good people of the world. Therein lies a lot of the problems, but they're not worth dissecting. Some of its miserably corny and the inspirational speeches aren't very inspirational. But, they're mind numbing more than offensive. You just have to wait them out, and then something else gets blown up.
The only real technical thing that bothers me about the arks is that the ceiling of the hangar feel on one of them, and they deemed it unusable. If it can't take an impact like that, how's it going to survive armageddon?
They're talking about a TV show to follow up the movie. Let me save you some time": don't do it. Its not going to work.
